The Art of Being Lazy

I'll be the first to admit it, I'm a lazy guy. I like doing as few things as possible during the day - and I like expending as little energy as possible getting those few things done.

Lately, I've been reading a lot of the Zen Habits blog by Leo Babauta. As I read more and more about doing less and less, I've noticed that being truly "lazy" is actually an art form. I'm not talking about your "average-run-of-the-mill" lazy though, this is about being productively lazy... Zen Lazy.

Productively lazy... is that even possible?

Sure it is.

It pretty much breaks down like this - it's not about how much you do, but the quality of WHAT you do.

Yep, that's it.

Why worry about a list that's a million items long - which you know you'll never get to - when having a list of only 3 or 4 things is plenty to keep a person busy for a day... and then looking like a rock star for getting it all done.

You might fight it at first, feeling guilty for not working on those million things - but after a little while you'll too be preaching this new way of life.

Think about it... read up on it... go live it.

Brutal Legend

It's very nice to see that this game is finally going to come out. With Jack Black as the voice and obvious likeness, how can this not be the embodiment of the rock god fantasy from Pick of Destiny and School of Rock.

It's a must buy as soon as it hits the shelf.

Legos... Potter... Geekdom

please raise hand for assistanceImage by coldtaxi via Flickr

By a show of hands... who's excited about the new Harry Potter movie coming out next week?

Ok... that's about what I expected. I know I am. My fiance and her two sisters will more then likely be in one of their many Potter shirts and sporting a lightning bolt sticker on their foreheads - which means I'll have to get done up too. Which isn't a bad thing... she thinks it's cute.

Now, with a second show of hands... who's excited about LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1 - 4 coming out next year?

Hells yeah I am! Honestly, it was only a matter of time after WB teamed up with Travellers Tales and released LEGO Batman that Potter wouldn't be too far behind. You could see it coming a mile away.

The only LEGO game I don't understand is Rock Band... why?

4 Programs I Could Not Live Without

Over the years, I've used a lot of different programs that do a lot of different things. Here is a list of my all-time favorite four programs that I could not live without.

By far the best internet browser ever. It's simple settings make it easy for a novice surfer to have a fair amount of protection - yet the open platform gives infinite possibilities for advanced users to install 3rd party extensions.

2. AVG Free
I was once a firm believer in the "pink shirt" system for my AV protection. After a near-fatal infection at home from a work computer, a friend of mine turned me onto AVG from Grisoft - I've never looked back. It's fast, lightweight, has daily updates and best of all... it's free.

3. Spybot Search & Destroy
As I recovered from that near-fatal infection, I also learned of all the other "little nasties" that can lurk in ones computer like cookies and ad based programs. S&D is another golden freebie that no geek should be without.

4. LogMeIn Free
The. Best. Tool. Ever. Period. This simple tray app gives you total control of your computer from any internet browser, anywhere - even your iPhone!

Patience

Now that's a proper retro spacer.Image by Don Solo via Flickr

Content coming soon.

Between a full time day job, fiance and building a new PC for the upcoming Windows7 release I've had no time to get any content together.

Be patient... the results might be worth it.
